Born and bred in the Potteries, I completed my studies at the Stanfield Technical High School and was lucky enough to be offered a student apprentice at The English Electric Company, Stafford. I studied at the Stafford College of Advanced Technology, Beaconside and carried out practical work in various Stafford Works Engineering Departments.
Upon completing my apprenticeship I was offered a position as a Test Engineer in the Kidsgrove GEC Elliott Automation factory. The photograph above taken in 1970 shows me in the systems test area testing a GEC M2140 computer system
British Steel purchased a GEC 2140 computer system to control the new 5 stand tandem cold rolling mill soon to be installed at the Shotton Works, Deeside plant. I was offered a position as a Computer Automation Technician and moved to Farndon in Cheshire.
I worked in several departments in several engineering roles and helped to commission the new Coating complex production lines.
Following the closure of the Cold Mill in 2001 joined the closure team and assisted with the equipment isolation and removal.
I was always interested in encouraging youngsters to consider engineering as a profession and after leaving Corus Colors,I worked for TTE (Training Tomorrows Engineers) Ellesmere Port as a Tutor, teaching electrical and electronic principles for several years, before retiring in 2016

A few photographs which I have taken in Farndon are shown here.

An ancient bridge over the river Dee separating England and Wales. Floods regularly in the Winter months.
Longton was my birthplace. The Ferodo sign has now disappeared

Walked past every morning on my way to the Queensberry Road school and fell in love with the smell. Still enjoy the toffee to this day.
